Therapeutic Support for Fathers

Fathers of children with individual differences play a critical role in supporting their child’s development. They also face unique challenges. The pressures of parenting, work and maintaining a healthy and sustainable family dynamic can feel overwhelming.

The summer time frame is an ideal opportunity to process these challenges, and expand the repertoire of options that you have at your disposal to regulate your child.

Neal Drew, OTD, OTR/L, is a parent of two who has extensive experience coaching and working collaboratively with fathers, male caregivers and male support staff over the past 16 years.

Areas of focus include:

  • Understanding your unique sensorimotor and arousal profile and how this influences your patterns of behavior as a parent

  • Understanding your child’s behavioral cues for a hypo-alert, hyper-alert, and calm-alert state, and developing the right approach for each state

  • Harnessing the potential of physical engagement with your child, while modulating this energy to support regulation in the home

  • Identifying facilitators and barriers during mornings, afternoons, or weekends in order to promote harmonious family time

  • Aligning communication with your spouse around your children’s needs

  • Anchoring your child through 1:1 interaction and meaningful routines when parents are separated and/or divorced.

  • Digging deeper into self-care: what does it mean for you, and how can it be addressed with limited time and resources

  • Sessions will be offered on a weekly basis through Zoom.
